Music Camp for Kids: An Introduction
What is a music camp, or a band camp? We give you the low down.
Makemusic’s music camps are a great way for young musicians to meet other musicians during the school holidays, and learn all of the aspects of what it takes to be in a band.

As music instrument instructors , we have noticed that more and more of our students who attend our music lessons, do not get together with other musicians outside of their private music class weekly setting.
We have specially tailored different “modules” for our music camps, that will arm young musicians with as much musical band knowledge that we can fit into
a week.
To make our camps run as smoothly as possible and to make sure every student who attends will have a great musical experience, there will be certain factors that will determine how we place musicians together into their new groups for the week.
Our camps are designed for 8-year-olds-18-year-olds. We match musicians by similar age and secondly, we match musicians by similar ability.
Each group in our camps will have a maximum of one drummer, one piano player, and one bass guitar player ,but we have had two or more guitarists and singers in our camp groups before which works well in a group setting.
My child doesn’t play drums guitar or piano is your camp for them?
YES! Any instrument will work in our camps and we encourage players of all instruments to attend a music camp for the musical development – we make it work. Generally, we have drummers, guitarists and piano players attend our camps as they are the most popular instruments, but we have also had saxophonists , violinists, harpists and trombonists attend in the past.

My child doesn’t play a music instrument but they would love to attend your camp. Is your camp for them?
This is a question that we are asked quite often.
In order to make the camp work, some level of playing would have to be reached in the past by the student. A big part of our camp is group performance and this would not be possible to achieve without some prior music lessons. Beginners of an instrument are most welcome to our camps, but for somebody who has never taken a music lesson before, we would suggest some private music tuition with us so they would be ready for our camps later in the year!
What our camp goers to expect over the course of the weekly camp?
We have designed our camps based on all the essential elements it takes to be in a real gigging bad. Our music teachers ,who have also been part in many bands have together designed this course from their wide experience.

Our main focus is on a “band session” at the start and end of each day. Under expert tuition the new band members will be helped to perform cover songs, and of course write their own pieces. Our camps run from 10 am – 3 pm, and run from Monday – Friday during the easter and summer breaks weekly. All instruments are provided by Makemusic, unless a camp-goer would like to bring their own instrument.
At the end of each camp, we record on video the songs each of the new bands have been working on, so friends and family can see what amazing music has been achieved in the week.

Why not try one of our music camps this easter or summer and bring your music classes to life in a group band setting!
